New Child Hunger Study Results

On Thursday, August 25th, 2011, Feeding America released a new study which reveals that children are struggling with hunger on every county and Congressional District in the country. The findings show:

  • 30.5% of Treasure Coast children are food insecure, with 36,290 kids not knowing where their next meal is coming from.

  • 64% of food insecure children on the Treasure Coast qualify based on income for federal child nutrition programs like Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), free or reduced-price schools meals, and others.

  • 36% of food insecure children on the Treasure Coast do not qualify for federal child nutrition programs.

The research is based on "Map the Meal Gap 2011: Food Insecurity Estimates at the County Level," supported by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and Nielsen.  Click here to see the Treasure Coast information on child food insecurity.
